The Town of Vienna is hosting community bike rides this spring as a way to “pedal” its Bike-Friendly Community status and to demonstrate that getting around Vienna by bike is easy, safe, healthy, and fun.
Turning in her sneakers for bike pedals, Mayor Laurie DiRocco will kick off the rides on April 13, replacing her regular Friday morning Mayor’s Walk with a Mayor’s Ride instead. Other rides, all sponsored by Vienna’s Bicycle Advisory Committee, are scheduled for April 27 and May 18, which is also National Bike to Work Day.
Participants will meet at the Vienna Community Center at 9:15 a.m. for a 9:30 ride. The rides are “casual” and will be approximately three-four miles in length and should take no more than an hour. No registration is necessary, but helmets are absolutely required and water bottles recommended.
“In 2016, the Town of Vienna was recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bicycle Friendly Community,” says Bicycle Advisory Committee Vice Chair Charlie Strunk. “We want our residents to experience firsthand how bike-friendly Vienna is. Community rides are a fun way to do this.”
