The power of rock music over the emotions is the theme of “Rock Your Sole,” the spring performance by Dance students at Fairfax Academy, scheduled to be presented on Friday, May 19,and Saturday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Fairfax High School. The show is free of charge (although donations to the dance program will be accepted) and is part of the Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts celebration.

Thirty-seven students from all four levels of the academy’s dance classes, who come from 12 different FCPS high schools, will perform dances to “Come Together,” “Paint it Black,” “With Arms Wide Open,” and “Desperado,” among other musical selections. Music was chosen that will be recognized by a multitude of generations and create a connection for the entire audience.

This year, four pieces from the show have been individually choreographed by students, and one piece has been choreographed by a group of advanced dance students.

This eclectic show features five types of dance and celebrates the diversity of Fairfax Academy dancers and their performance desires. Jazz, modern, tap, ballet, contemporary, and lyrical dance will all be featured in this year’s show.
