To commemorate Earth Day and inform students and the local community about environmental concerns, the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will host the 2018 Green Festival, on April 26th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center (CE) Building, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale.

Each year the Green Festival’s purpose is to increase awareness of regional, national and global environmental issues. This year’s festival theme, “Towards Environmental Resiliency in a Changing World,” will focus on climate resiliency and sustainability, by highlighting tools and research on the planning and implementation of green infrastructure for community building, human health and ecological benefit.

The Festival will include a screening of the film The Age of Consequences, a documentary on investigating growing threats to security on a national and international scale; including increasing resource scarcity, infrastructure risks, conflict and increasing refugee populations. In addition to the film screening, the festival will include a keynote presentation by the Executive Director of National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE)Michelle Wyman, morning and afternoon panel discussions, interactive demonstrations and informational displays.

The Green Festival is supported by the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE), NOVA-Annandale Recreation and Parks Society (RPK), NOVA’s Sustainability program and Coca-Cola.

The 2018 Green Festival will be held in the CE Building’s theater, forum and gymnasium/multi-purpose rooms. This event is free and open to the public.
