Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) will join community organizations from across Northern Virginia on July 10 for a town hall focused on Alzheimer’s.
“We’ve all witnessed firsthand a family member suffer from this disease, and are all too familiar with the devastating effect it has on everyone around them, especially the immediate caregivers” Connolly said. “We are making strides towards better understanding this disease and hopefully a cure is in the near future. That’s why I have consistently supported legislation that would increase funding for Alzheimer’s research and was proud to support a $2 billion increase in NIH funding in the recent government funding bill.”
“But we also need to think about the caregivers and make sure we have resources available to them. I look forward to hearing from our panel of experts on the resources that are available in Northern Virginia for those struggling with or caring for someone with this disease.”
Hosted in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, the event will feature remarks by Congressman Connolly on legislative actions he has taken to fight the disease in Congress, remarks from community leaders such as National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) President Richard Thissen as well as representatives from the Virginia Alzheimer’s Commission, Fairfax and Prince William County Offices on Aging.
