The Vienna-Oakton area is one big construction zone as I-66 is widened to create new express lanes and other projects in the area accelerate. Perhaps the biggest impact in the near future will come from the closing of the Vaden Street Bridge across I-66 just west of the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metro station.
The bridge will close this fall and remain closed for up to ten months. Besides being a busy route for school buses and commuters in the area, the bridge connects the north and south parking garages at the Metro station.
VDOT is promising to have the work on the bridge completed before the Metro station and others along the Orange Line close for renovation next July.
To help residents prepare for the disruptions associated with the project, VDOT is sponsoring an open house at the Providence Community Center, 3001 Vaden Dr., Fairfax, VA 22031 on Wednesday, September 4. The Open House will be from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The Presentation begins at 7 p.m. and will be repeated at 8 p.m.
Besides the bridge, VDOT representatives will discuss the rebuilding of the Route 123 interchange and the Nutley Street interchange update.
