Fairfax County Police Cruiser Involved in Pedestrian Crash

News release from the Fairfax County Police Department

Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate an early morning crash between a police cruiser and a pedestrian.  A police supervisor from our Reston District Station was driving southbound on Reston Parkway approaching the intersection of Sunset Hills Road around 2 a.m.

The officer had the green traffic signal and was continuing straight through the intersection when a 42-year-old woman walked into the roadway against the pedestrian crossing signal and was struck, a police report said. The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and the officer was uninjured.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors for the officer. Alcohol may have been a factor for the pedestrian.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call our Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543

According to our Traffic Division, countywide to date in 2019, we have had ten pedestrian fatalities, 85 injuries and 79 pedestrian- related crashes.
