Metro Silver Line Testing Starts in Eastern Loudoun

Test trains for Phase 2 of the Silver Line have rolled into Loudoun County. The trains, now parked near the future Loudoun Gateway Metrorail Station along the Dulles Greenway just west of Dulles Airport, will be used for dynamic testing along a stretch of the rail corridor bordering Loudoun and Fairfax County.

Working with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) staff, crews are ready to launch the third of several phases of this testing, a key component of preparations to completion of Phase 2.

Dynamic testing uses WMATA Trains to test components of the Automatic Trail Control System to verify the design and installation.

The Silver Line is being built by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and will be turned over to WMATA when completed. Construction is being done by Capital Rail Constructors.

July of 2020 is the target date for construction completion.
