Detectives Charge Suspect in Mount Rainier Homicide

Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives charged a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in the city of Mount Rainier earlier this month. The suspect is 23-year-old Nathaniel Thompson, Jr. of the 4000 block of 37th Street in Mount Rainier. He is charged with fatally shooting 20-year-old Hosheyah Smith of Glenn Dale.

On July 10th, at approximately 6:05 pm, PGPD detectives responded to an area hospital for a walk-in shooting victim who they later identified as Smith. The subsequent investigation established Smith had been shot near the intersection of 37th and Shepherd Streets. Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation reveals Thompson shot Smith during an illegal drug transaction. The suspect is charged with second degree murder, manslaughter and related charges.  He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
