Arrest Made in a Homicide: 600 Block of Morton Street, Northwest

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, June 22, 2019, in the 600 block of Morton Street, Northwest.

At approximately 9:51 pm, members of the Fourth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Additionally, members located a second adult male victim in the 3400 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest, conscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 45 year-old Melton Grant, of no fixed address.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2019, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 41 year-old Keith Toney, of No Fixed Address. He has been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
