UPDATE 10 a.m., 6/10

Virginia State Police have identified the man killed in an early-morning Beltway accident Saturday.

He was Barrington Holt, 82, of Falls Church.

Virginia State Police say one person was killed in an early morning crash in the northbound lanes of I-495.

A vehicle traveling north on I-495 ran off the right side of the interstate and struck a concrete barrier and then the guard rail. The sedan’s driver, an adult male, exited his vehicle and was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of I-495 when he crossed in front of a northbound tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer tried to avoid the man by braking suddenly, but was unable to avoid striking the man. The tractor-trailer was then rear-ended by a northbound tractor-trailer.

The pedestrian died at the scene.
