The Town of Vienna’s Conservation and Sustainability Commission is hosting a second community forum about solar energy and the Solarize NOVA program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Town Hall, 127 Center Street S. The forum will provide residents and businesses considering solar energy an opportunity to ask questions and obtain information about pre-vetted installation contractors and pricing.
Solarize NOVA is a cooperative partnership between the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, Local Energy Alliance Program, Town of Vienna, and other area localities that encourages the adoption of solar energy as a clean energy alternative and way to save money on utility bills.
This is the final year to take advantage of the full 30% federal tax credit on the cost of solar equipment; in 2020, the credit drops to 26%. Vienna residents who install solar also are eligible for a Fairfax County real estate tax exemption for five years. Virginia residents can “net meter” excess energy generated by solar systems.
The Town of Vienna’s Solarize Community Forum is free and open to the public.
