UPDATE: One Dead in Early-Morning I-66 Crash

[UPDATE 5/22, 2 PM]

The female driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as Randi L. Cockerille, 25, of Sterling.

[UPDATED 1:30 p.m.]

A woman was killed early this morning when her Chevrolet Cobalt rear-ended a tractor-trailer truck near the Rt. 29/Lee Highway exit on I-66.
Virginia State Police say the flatbed tractor-trailer was parked on the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes of I-66. The vehicle did not have its lights on and the driver was asleep in the cab.
A 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt traveling east on I-66 ran into the back of the truck shortly after midnight. The impact of the crash sparked a minor fire within the Cobalt, which a state trooper was able to put out with a fire extinguisher.
The adult, female driver of the car died at the scene. State police are still working to notify the next of kin.
The truck’s driver, a 35-year-old male driver from Iowa, was not injured in the crash.
