This is a news release from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department published verbatim.

Recently, firefighters and paramedics from Station 30, Merrifield, and Station 18, Jefferson, A-Shift had an opportunity to teach the INOVA/Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) medical students about the principles and capabilities of pre-hospital medical and trauma care. The crews demonstrated a variety of equipment and the capabilities of each. Medic 430 demonstrated all the critical intervals in the chain of survival from the 911 call to a patient being taken to the Emergency Room of a hospital.

This is part of the “Introduction to Emergency Medical Services (EMS)” portion of the VCU School of Medicine medical student orientation.

FCFRD Medical Director, Dr. Weir and Associate Medical Director Dr. Avstreih had the honor of presenting Fire Chief John Butler with a VCU School of Medicine – Inova Campus patch as a “thank you” from the medical school for FCFRD’s partnership in medical student and physician education.
