News release from the Fairfax County Police Department
Detectives are investigating the in-custody death of 38-year-old inmate Hector Escobar Romero. Romero was taken from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center (ADC) to the hospital for medical attention on Sunday, May 5 after being found unresponsive in his cell. He remained in the hospital where he died last night. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will examine the body, but preliminarily, there are no signs of foul play.
The inmate had been incarcerated at the ADC since March 5. The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and our department are working collectively to gather all information and to thoroughly document the situation. We investigate all Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in-custody deaths.
