This is a news release from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department published verbatim.

Week Four of the Citizen’s Fire and Rescue Academy (CFRA) found the group interacting with members of the Fairfax County Urban Search and Rescue Program (USAR). Last night, members got to meet K9 handler Christine Harrison and her canine partner Aleko. CFRA members learned how the two work together to find any live victims’ that might be under the rubble of a collapsed building.

The group also observed a practical demonstration of a variety of technical rescue techniques that members of USAR might be called on to perform. CFRA members were also in the classroom to hear from USAR leaders about the team and to ask any questions they may have.
