Virginia’s two U.S. Senators — Mark Warner and Tim Kaine — were among the most visible Congressional players in trying to end the partial government shutdown this past week.

Warner, Kaine and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Me.) took to the Senate floor today in a session that was called after Kaine objected to the Senate’s adjournment on Friday.

In his floor remarks, Warner noted that President Trump has failed to meet with any federal workers hurt by his government shutdown. Sen. Warner also shared the stories of federal workers he’s met with or heard from via email since the shutdown began.

Warner introduced legislation, which the President recently signed into law, securing back pay for federal workers. He has also introduced legislation to reimburse low-wage federal contractors who have gone without pay during the shutdown.
