Cold weather delays school openings

Due to the very cold weather, all Fairfax County public schools will open two hours late on Tuesday, January 22 (Condition 3B). School offices and central offices will open on time.

Others opening late include Arlington, Falls Church and Stafford County schools.

Fairfax Public Schools said the delay will provide additional time to address any potential cold weather mechanical issues with buses that have been idle since Friday.

Morning preschool (special education) classes are canceled.

Afternoon preschool classes start on their regular schedule.

Full-day preschool (special education) and Family and Early Childhood Education Program/Head Start classes start two hours later than the regular schedule.

Morning field trips are canceled.

SACC centers will open at 8 a.m.

Morning transportation for high school academy classes is canceled. Transportation for afternoon academy classes will be provided.

Adult High School and GED classes start two hours late.

Community education classes will start on time.
