Pedestrian hit by police car in Wheaton

The officer driving the police vehicle has been identified as Officer Fritz Calderon, assigned to the 4th District Station. The pedestrian, identified as Ronald De Jesus Ramirez Ramos, age 21, of Wheaton, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive.
Montgomery County Police are investigating an accident in which a marked police car hit and seriously injured a pedestrian last night.
It happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Georgia Avenue in the area of Blueridge Avenue.

Preliminary investigation found that a 2016 Ford Taurus, marked police vehicle, was traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue when it hit a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.

The officer driving the police vehicle was not responding to an emergency incident and did not have the emergency equipment activated at the time of the collision.  The pedestrian was not within a crosswalk.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The officer driving the police vehicle was not injured. No identities were released.
