More rain is on the way A Flash Flood Watch is in effect this evening through Friday. There is a potential for heavy rain and flash flooding.
The latest forecast is calling fo rain and areas of fog before 1 am, then rain showers and areas of fog between 1 am and 4 am, then rain and patchy fog. Cloudy. Low around 42, with temperatures rising to around 60 overnight. Southeast wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
The new rain, coupled with the rain that has fallen over the last few weeks, has left the ground saturated and creeks and rivers running at high levels. This greatly increases the chance of flash flooding.
Over the last few weeks, there have been several instances of cars being trapped or swept away when drivers attempted to go through flooded streets.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into flood water. Many people underestimate, and do not understand, the power and force of water.
