This is a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department, published verbatim.

Fairfax County Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed just before 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Detectives believe the adult man was struck as he attempted to cross west on Centrewood Drive near the Centrewood Plaza shopping center.  He was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing.

The driver of a 2009 Hyundai sedan was driving south on Centrewood Drive when he hit the pedestrian.  The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives.  The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he died. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors for the driver.

Detectives are still attempting to identify the pedestrian. At this point, no charges are expected.

Detective Grimm from the Crash Reconstruction Unit is asking for additional information from anyone that may have witnessed the crash.  If you have any information, please contact 703-280-0564.
