Pedestrian killed in Bethesda

A 74-year-old woman died last night after being struck by a car in Bethesda, the latest in a rash of pedestrian deaths in the Washington area.

Montgomery County Police said it happened about 5:30 at Old Georgetown Road at Kingswood Road, where a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee had exited westbound Interstate 495 (I-495) and was traveling north on Old Georgetown Road.  The pedestrian was crossing northbound Georgetown Road when she was struck by the Grand Cherokee.

The victim later died at a hospital.  She was identified as Dona Cicy H. Amarasekara of Rollins Avenue in Rockville.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee is identified as Sheikh Shehzad Parviz, age 45, of Bells Mill Road in Bethesda.  He was not injured.
