DC Police investigate fatal shooting in Southwest


Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday in the 100 block of Irvington Street, Southwest.

At approximately 5:50 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to an area hospital for the report of a shooting victim seeking treatment. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Further investigation revealed the shooting occurred in the 100 block of Irvington Street, Southwest.

The decedent has been identified as 23-year-old Samuel Lee Smith, of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
