Metro closes parking garage at Huntington

There’s less parking at the Huntington Metro station than there used to be.

Metro has closed the south parking garage at Huntington. That means about 300 fewer parking spots. The south garage is the oldest of the three at the station and is scheduled to be demolished next summer. That will coincide with a platform rehabilitation project that will temporarily close the station next year.

Parking has been restricted to a part of that garage since 2015. Last week, engineers working on the garage to determine how to bring it down it next year discovered patches of concrete which could come loose under certain conditions. Metro says no structural concerns were found but managers decided to totally close the garage to play it safe.

Metro says the middle and north garages at Huntington can easily handle the 300 spaces that have been lost by closing the south garage.
