The 17-year-old driver of a single-car crash in Clifton Tuesday has died.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. on Fairfax Station Road near Colewood Estates Road. Fairfax County police say the 2005 Jeep left the road and hit a tree. They believe speed was a factor in the accident.

The driver died in the hospital Wednesday. A passenger in the car remains hospitalized. A second passenger was treated at the hospital and released.

Police say the driver of the car was from Burke but they’re withholding the names of all of the victims, citing Virginia Code restrictions regarding minors’ identities.
