Speeding charges filed after fatal pedestrian accident in Reston

The driver of a car that struck and killed a Reston woman in May has been charged with speeding.

Fairfax County police say 67-year-old Michael Peter Fruitman, of Herndon, was doing 60 miles when he struck and killed 71-year-old Glanetta Miller Nunn. The speed limit is 40 miles an hour on Reston Parkway at Bluemont Way, where the accident happened on May 21.

Nunn was trying to cross the parkway when she was struck by the northbound car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fruitman has been issued a summons. A court date is pending.
