Two Alexandria residents were killed early Friday when their car went off a ramp from westbound I-495.

Leon M. Johnson, 22, and passenger, Alysha J. Battle, 20, both of Alexandria, died at the scene.

Virginia State Police Trooper W.C. Sheehan was on routine patrol when he came upon an overturned 2013 Nissan Sentra. The trooper’s investigation determined that the Nissan had been traveling at a high rate of speed when it took the Eisenhower Avenue exit ramp shortly after midnight. The vehicle ran off the side of the road, struck the Jersey wall and overturned.

Battle went to Bryant Alternative High School in Alexandria and worked in retail at the Fashion Center at Pentagon City, according to her Facebook page.

The crash remains under investigation.
