Suspect sees his photo on social media, turns himself in

A robbery suspect who saw himself and his accomplice in surveillance photos released by Fairfax County Police detectives has turned himself in. Rodrigo Mercado Rifarace, 19, of Springfield, called police after seeing photos from the robbery scene circulating on social media.

An investigation determined the suspects, Mercado Rifarace and 20-year-old Ariel Alvarado Camacho, of Alexandria, took a video game from a victim and implied they had a weapon as they walked away.

The robbery happened in Annandale on the morning of April 4 near Patriot Drive and Heritage Drive. It was reported right away, and police canvassed the area looking for any witnesses and surveillance cameras. Detectives released photos to the public asking for anyone with information to come forward.
