Yes, winter is over but it’s not leaving peacefully. Forecasters are warning that snow and icy conditions may hit the mid-Atlantic region by this weekend. Look for rain mixed with snow along the I-95 corridor, possibly spreading into New York and New England, they say.
The forecast is somewhat uncertain, as usual. Weather.com says accumulations will depend on the intensity of the snow and temperatures during the daytime hours on Saturday. “Near the Interstate 95 corridor, rain could mix with snow and cut down on the potential for accumulations. Conversely, if snowfall rates are heavy enough, that could boost the potential for accumulations,” it said.
The National Weather Service concurs with Weather.com. It is calling for rain followed by wintry mix Friday night, wintry mix during the day Saturday and a 40% possibility of snow Saturday night.
A possible plus is that ground temperatures should be on the warm side, which could cause the snow to melt almost as soon as it falls.
