Heavy rains bring flooded roads and water rescue

Rain that pelted Fairfax County early Friday closed roads, snarled traffic and trapped at least one driver in a stranded vehicle. Fairfax County firefighters had to rescue that driver from his car at Old Courthouse Road and Besley Road in Tysons.

Roads were also closed at Woodburn Road at Spicewood Drive in Annandale, and Burke Road at Heritage Square Drive in Burke.

The National Weather Service reported small streams had swollen out of their banks at the start of the Friday morning rush hour and it posted a Flood Warning through most of the morning.
