UPDATED 8/30 with victim’s identity, other information.

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal two-car accident that occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95 in Prince William County late Sunday night. Killed in the crash was James Henry Taylor IV, 47, of Fredericksburg, police said.

Police say the at-fault vehicle fled the scene by taking Exit 152B, leading to Route 234, Dumfries Road, Manassas. The only description of the suspect vehicle is that it is dark in color and will have damage to its right side. Anyone with information on the suspect vehicle  is asked to please call the Virginia State Police at 703-803-0026.

According to witnesses, a four-door, dark-colored sedan was in the northbound I-95 exit lane for Exit 152A, when it suddenly swerved out of the lane and crossed multiple northbound lanes before striking Taylor’s tan 2006 Hyundai Elantra, also traveling north on I-95. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to run off the left side of the interstate with the Hyundai hitting the guardrail. The two vehicles collided a second time, with this impact causing the Hyundai to hit the guardrail head-on.

The dark sedan fled the scene. This vehicle should have significant damage to the rear driver’s side, with possibly a broken tail light. There should also be damage to front bumper on the driver’s side. Witnesses could not provide a license plate or actual vehicle color of the suspect vehicle.
