Herndon hit by small tornado Thursday

The severe weather that rolled through Fairfax County Thursday afternoon brought with it a small tornado.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a level EF-0, hit in Herndon with winds of 60-70 miles per hour. It happened around 1:35pm. The twister traveled about thrree-quarters of a mile near the Fairfax – Loudoun County line.  No injuries were reported.

An EF-0 tornado struck near Joint Base Anacostia, in Southeast DC, about five minutes later. Again, no injuries were reported.
