Fairfax County Fire Rescue five year call graph

It’s been another busy year for firefighters and medics in Fairfax County.  Fiscal year 2016 saw more calls than in 2015 and it’s been a nearly steady climb over the past five years.

There were 97,204 calls for fire or medical service in FY 16 compared with 95,364 calls in FY 15.  It’s the third straight year where the call load has increased.

As is the case in fire-rescue departments all over the U.S., most of these calls were for medical services; more than 72,000 of them.  Fire calls accounted for just over 18,000.
