Route 1 re-alignment ready to drive

Route 1 Ft. Belvoir

All that construction work along Route 1 in Ft.  Belvoir is about to pay off.

VDOT reports that all lanes of Richmond Highway will be shifted to their final alignment Wednesday afternoon.  That means two lanes will be flowing in each direction. Drivers will travel on the new alignment from Telegraph Road to Jeff Todd Way/Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, including a newly built portion from Belvoir Road, at Ft. Belvoir’s Pence Gate, to Jeff Todd Way/Mount Vernon Memorial Highway.

The lane shifts are part of the Route 1 Widening Project, which is adding an additional lane in both directions and a 32-foot wide median for a nearly four-mile segment of Route 1 between Telegraph Road and Mount Vernon Memorial Highway. The final three lanes of travel in each direction are scheduled to open in early spring 2017.
