World Police & Fire Games expected to draw 10,000 entrants

The World Police & Fire Games open later this week in Fairfax and are expected to draw nearly 10,000 athletes from police, fire, and other public safety agencies representing all 50 states and over 70 countries across the world. There will be 60 medal events at 54 venues, primarily in Fairfax County.

The games begin with an opening ceremony at RFK Stadium, on Friday, June 26 at 6 p.m., featuring entertainer Sugar Ray. Tickets are available  online.

About 200 police department athletes will participate in the games, including soccer, hockey, baseball, wrestling, paintball, dodge ball, bowling and dozens of other activities. A is available here. Most events are free and open to the public.

Among the highlight, the body building competition begins at noon, Saturday, June 27 at the George Mason University Center for the Arts, with 86 competitors from around the globe.

You might not consider motorcycling to be a sport but if you do, catch the loud, precision movements of motorcyclists at the Dulles Expo Center, on Route 28 in Chantilly, on Saturday, June 27, starting at 9 a.m.
