Police investigate shootings in Mount Vernon area

ffx-policeFairfax County Police are investigating two separate shooting incidents in the Mount Vernon area. On Saturday, police responded to a shooting in the 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue at 12:15 a.m.

Several rounds were fired at a vehicle which had just pulled into a parking space. Two individuals in the vehicle were struck by the gunfire; both sustained non life-threatening injuries. One victim, a 22-year-old Alexandria man, was struck in the lower leg. The other, a 28-year-old Woodbridge man, was struck in the lower body and upper leg. The victims were not able to supply a description.

About the same time, a 29-year-old man was walking in the 8400 block of Blankenship Street when a group of men approached and one displayed a handgun. The suspects pushed the man to the ground and demanded his property. They fled with a cell phone and wallet.

One of the suspects allegedly fired his handgun at the victim. The victim was not struck but did receive minor injuries from being pushed to the ground.

One suspect was described as black, 18 to 20 years old. He had dread locks down to his neck. He was wearing all black clothing. Another suspect, also black, was wearing a white sweater and black pants. There is no information on the other suspects.
