police-shootingA 46-year-old Springfield man died yesterday (Thursday) after being shot by a Fairfax County Police officer. He was identified as 46-year-old John Geer.

Police were called to the 7900 block of Pebble Brook Court about 2:40 p.m. to answer a call of a domestic dispute involving a firearm. When they arrived, the complainant was outside the home and Geer was inside.

During the negotiations a patrol officer fired a single shot that struck the man. The man then barricaded himself inside the residence,” a police report of the incident said.

“For the purpose of rendering aid, the police hostage rescue vehicle was utilized to allow a safe approach and entry into the residence. Once inside, tactical officers found the man deceased,” the report said.

The officer, who was not identified, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
