West Potomac Academy Students to Volunteer at Veterans Day Social

Students from West Potomac Academy will volunteer at a Veterans Day social at the Paul Spring Retirement Community this Friday (Nov. 9) to honor the residents who have served in the U.S. military.

Medical Assisting students will set up pictures and personal items shared by the residents and their families, serve snacks and beverages and socialize with residents. Professional Television Production students will capture stories on video through personal interviews with the veterans, creating a compilation CD of the interviews that will be given to residents and their families on Paul Spring Family Day in December.

These volunteer opportunities are made possible through the business partnership between West Potomac Academy and Capital Caring, Alexandria. Capital Caring Hospice patients reside at Paul Spring as well as in retirement communities and nursing homes throughout the Alexandria area.

Students can earn volunteer hours during this event and have the opportunity to sign on as regular volunteers with Paul Spring. The volunteer hours can be applied towards a civics seal on their diploma. The experience of working at the retirement community also provides real-life career experiences for their professional portfolios.
