Weekend Fun Run to Help the Homeless

Combat homelessness in Fairfax County by competing in the Drumstix Dash, a challenging post-Thanksgiving 8K race held at scenic Burke Lake Park at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 to benefit Housing & Community Services of Northern Virginia (HCSNV). The Drumstix Dash, which is sponsored by the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® and Sheehy Ford, features an 8K run plus a family-friendly fun run and walk, refreshments and awards. All registered runners will receive a goody bag and a race shirt. Prizes will be awarded to top runners overall, and also to the top three men and women in various age groups.

The race begins at 9 a.m. Capital Running Company will provide chrono-track timed race services. A training program is available for runners who want help preparing for the race.

Though it has only been in existence for four years, the Drumstix Dash has made a niche for itself in the community, attracting prestigious and public spirited donors such as Dewberry, The Northern Virginia Association of Realtors, Sheehy Ford of Springfield, The Freddie Mac Foundation, The Virginia Housing Development Authority and Fairfax County, Virginia.

Jose Paiz, the Chair of HCSNV’s Board of Directors, says that HCSNV’s services are becoming more critical due to the slow economic recovery. “With continued foreclosures and unemployment,” he says, “housing distress is a chronic problem for some homeowners and families. HCSNV provides these families with the counseling they need to adapt to this new, unpredictable environment.” Proceeds from the race will be used to forward HCSNV’s mission of providing counseling and support services to Fairfax County citizens who are in danger of losing their homes.

HCSNV is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit association that works to rescue your neighbors from foreclosure and eviction by offering services that include budget counseling, affordable housing search, crisis intervention, and emergency financial assistance. You can learn more about HCSNV on its web site, http://www.hcsnv.org.
