Fairfax Woman Drowns in Potomac Near Occoquan Marina

Police dive teams have recovered the body of a Fairfax County woman who drowned in the Potomac River.

Police say Cheryl Ann Alston, 66, of Fairfax, was found by divers in Belmont Bay Wednesday. She had been reported missing Nov. 5. Investigators say she apparently fell into the water from the Occoquan Marina, where she kept a boat.

Alston’s body was recovered yesterday (Wednesday) by Prince William County and Fairfax County Police dive teams, with the assistance of a helicopter from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency.

Police say the drowning appears to be accidental and no foul play is suspected.
