Lightning Strikes Oakton House

A fire that investigators say was caused by a lightning strike caused an estimated $195,000 in damage to an Oakton house Friday (June 1) night.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units arriving at 3140 Trenholm Drive at about 10:20 PM found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the two-story, single-family home.

Firefighters attacking from both the interior and exterior and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes — quickly enough to save about half the roof.

The extensive water damage to the second floor and minor damage to the first floor has displaced two adults, who escaped the structure unharmed.
