The inaugural Washington West Film Festival, celebrating film in the Northern Virginia region, is coming to Reston November 3-5. The festival features 23 short and feature-length films from around the world.
The festival is unique in that 100% of net proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to a well-vetted charity that helps change the circumstances of people in dire need. This year’s charity is related to the Closing Night Film, Sun City Picture House, which tells the story of villagers and relief workers building a theater in earthquake ravaged Haiti.
The festival has committed to fund the construction of another theater in Haiti, which will function as a feeding center during the day and cinema house at night. David Darg, Director of Sun City Picture House and Director of International Disaster Relief for nonprofit Operation Blessing International, began the building process last month.
