More Full Beltway Closures On Tap

Nightime bridge demolition continues at I-66 and I-495 and lots of full Beltway closures, mostly overnight, are on tap for the coming week. Here’s the full schedule:

DULLES CORRIDOR METRORAIL PROJECT
Nighttime work – Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted. 
  • I-495 south from Old Dominion Dr. overpass to Exit 46, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) – Three right lanes closed Wednesday – Friday nights for pier work.
  • Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) west at Idylwood Rd. overpass – left lane closed Tuesday – Thursday nights for paving.
  • Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east from Idylwood Rd. overpass to West Falls Church station  – Right lane closed Tuesday – Thursday nights for paving.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and west at Spring Hill Rd. – Left turn lane closed Sunday – Friday nights for utility work. Traffic will be directed to follow detour signs.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west from Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) to Gosnell Rd. – Multiple lanes closed Tuesday – Thursday for paving and utility work.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east at Spring Hill Rd. and Westpark Dr. – Two left turn lanes closed Tuesday – Thursday nights for paving and station work. Traffic will be directed to follow detour signs.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north at Tysons Blvd. – Left turn lane closed Friday and Saturday night for pier work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south to I-495 south – Ramp closed Wednesday – Friday nights for pier work. Traffic will be directed to continue south, make a left onto International Dr. south, make a left onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • Tyco Rd. east from Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east to Spring Hill Rd. – Right lane closed Tuesday – Friday nights for paving.
  • Spring Hill Rd. north at Leesburg Pike (Route 7) – Right lane closed Wednesday – Friday night for utility work.
  • Westpark Dr. from Jones Branch Dr. to Galleria Dr. – Three left turn lanes closed Friday and Saturday night for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to follow detour signs.
  • Gosnell Rd. north at Leesburg Pike (Route 7) – Right lane closed Wednesday – Friday night for utility work.
  • Tysons Blvd. east at Galleria Dr. – Through lanes closed Monday – Thursday nights for bridge work. bridge work. Traffic will be directed to follow detour signs. Galleria Dr. east at Tysons Blvd. – Right turn lane closed Monday – Friday nights for bridge work.

Ongoing work

  • The right lane of southbound Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) is closed through Sept. 2011. For details click here.
  • No left turns from the Route 123 south ramp to Route 7 east. Use International Drive.

  • I-495 south to Exit 45B, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east – Ramp closed Monday – Friday nights for concrete girder erection. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to
    Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east.
  • Dulles International Airport Access Hwy. west at I-495 – Road closed Wednesday – Friday nights for overhang work. Traffic will be directed to Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) west. Motorists will not be tolled.
  • Dulles International Airport Access Hwy. east at I-495 – Road closed Monday – Wednesday nights for overhang work. Traffic will be directed to Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) east. Motorists will not be tolled.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north to I-495 south – Ramp closed Sunday night for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue north, make a U-turn at Capital One Dr. onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and south at I-495 – Two lanes closed Monday – Friday nights for overhang and bridge lighting work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north to Exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west – Ramp closed Monday and Tuesday nights for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue north, take Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, make a left onto International Dr. south and follow signs to Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west to I-495 north – Ramp closed Monday and Tuesday nights for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a right onto International Dr. north, right onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to I-495 north.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east to I-495 north – Ramp closed Monday and Wednesday night for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue east, make a U-turn at George Marshall Dr. onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west, make a right onto International Dr. north, right on Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to I-495 north.
  • Westpark Dr. overpass at Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) – Road closed Friday night for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • I-495 south from Oak St. overpass to Lee Hwy. (Route 29) overpass – Sunday – Saturday night for bridge work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south to Exit 49, I-66 west – Partial ramp closures Sunday night for barrier movement.
  • I-495 north to Exit 49B, I-66 east – Ramp closed Monday night for barrier movement. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 49A, I-66 west to Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 east.
  • I-66 west to I-495 south – Ramp closed Monday – Saturday nights for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to continue west, take Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-66 east and then signs to I-495 south.
  • I-66 east HOV to I-495 – Ramps closed Monday – Saturday night for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to use the I-66 east general purpose (right exits) to access I-495.
  • I-66 east at I-495 – Road closed Monday – Saturday nights for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 north to exit 49B, I-66 east.
  • I-495 north from Lee Hwy. (Route 29) overpass to Lewinsville Rd. overpass – Three lanes closed Sunday – Saturday nights for bridge work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • Lee Hwy. (Route 29) north or south at I-495 – Road closed Sunday – Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to use a single lane of either Lee Hwy. (Route 29) north or south.
  • I-495 north and south at Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) – Three lanes closed Sunday – Wednesday nights for overhead sign work and traffic shift. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south at Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) – Road closed Friday and Saturday nights for bridge joint work. Traffic will be directed to use the collector distributor road.
  • Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) west at I-495 – Two right lanes closed Sunday – Friday for utility work.  
  • Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) west to I-495 south – Ramp closed Sunday – Friday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Gallows Rd. (Route 650) south and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) east to I-495 north – Ramp closed Tuesday – Friday nights for signal work. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east, stay to the right and follow signs to I-495 north.
  • I-495 north and south at Exit 52, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) – Three left lanes closed Monday – Saturday night for traffic shift.
  • I-495 south to Exit 54A, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) west – Ramp closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for signal work. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 54B, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 north and stay to the right entering back onto Braddock Rd. (Route 620) west.
  • Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east and west at Port Royal Rd. – Two lanes closed Wednesday and Thursday night for signal work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north from Hemming Rd. underpass to Wakefield Park pedestrian bridge – Three right lanes closed Friday and Saturday nights for traffic shift. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north/west (Inner Loop) at I-395 – Road closed Sunday – Saturday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 170, I-395 north to Exit 2, Edsall Rd. west, stay to the right, follow signs to I-395 south and then signs to I-495 Inner Loop.

  • I-495 north/west (Inner Loop) to Exit 169 B/A, Franconia/Springfield (Route 644) – Ramp closed Sunday – Saturday nights for bridge work. DETOUR
  • I-495 Inner Loop and Outer Loop to I-395 north – Ramps closed Sunday – Saturday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue on the Inner Loop to Exit 54A, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) west, stay to the left, follow signs to I-495 south (Outer Loop) and then signs to I-395 north.
  • I-495 Outer Loop to I-395 north – Ramp closed Sunday – Saturday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to take I-95 south to Exit 166B, Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100) south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-95 north and then signs to I-395.
  • I-395 north at I-495 – Right lane closed Sunday – Saturday nights for bridge work.
  • I-395 south to Exit 1B, Franconia/Springfield (Route 644) – Ramp closed Sunday – Saturday nights for equipment installation. Traffic will be directed to Exit 1D, I-495 north to Tysons Corner, take Exit 54A, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) west, stay to the left, make a left at the signal onto I-495 south (Outer Loop) and follow signs to Franconia/Springfield (Route 644)

Daytime work- Closures occur between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • Expect single lane closures on the Inner and Outer Loops of I-495 from Springfield Interchange to beyond the Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) within the project area including all connecting arterials.

All closures are weather permitting.

Ongoing work

  • Richmond Hwy (Route 1) south at Pohick Rd. – Single lane closed Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ground and signal work.

 BRAC / PRELIMINARY MARK CENTER CLOSURESNo closures scheduled
 BRAC / FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY EXTENSION PROJECT
Daytime work – Closures occur between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
  • Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100) north and south from Barta Rd. to Franconia Springfield Pkwy. (Route 7900)- Single lane closed Monday – Friday for construction in median or shoulder widening. 
  • Franconia Springfield Pkwy. (Route 7900) east from the Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100) to Accotink Creek bridge – Right lane closed Monday – Friday for the addition of a new exit ramp. 
  • Hooes Rd. east and west at Barkers Ct. – Flagger operation Monday – Friday for material delivery.
