Firefighters Collecting Winter Coats for Kids

photoFairfax County firefighters, in cooperation with Operation Warm, Coats for Kids Foundation, Apple Federal Credit Union, Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, Inc., and the Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, will collect and distribute new winter coats for children and youths through high school age, Wednesday, October 26, 2011, 11 a.m., at Penn Daw Fire and Rescue Station 11, 6624 Hulvey Terrace, Alexandria, Virginia.

Operation Warm is a non-profit organization partnering with organizations in 26 states helping to provide new winter coats to children who cannot afford them.

Through generous support and donations from organizations and businesses, it is anticipated that approximately 2,000 youths and their families will benefit. This is the fifth year firefighters and the department has sponsored this community event.

The department coordinates distribution with Fairfax County Public Schools, the Department of Human Resources, Department of Family Services, and local shelters to reach a record number of youths this year.
