Student authors from Lane Elementary School will sign their award-winning nonfiction book, The Perfect Place for an Elf Owl, on Wednesday, September 21, at 7 p.m.
During the 2010-11 school year, Nicole Groeneweg’s first and second grade class won the grand prize in Scholastic’s Kids Are Authors 2011 competition. Their book, which was written and illustrated by the students, tells the story of a lost elf owl who searches for his mother through a variety of habitats and ecosystems before finding her in the perfect place to call home.
The students will sign copies of their published book, which will be available that evening and at Scholastic book fairs throughout the fall.
The annual competition is open to students in grades K-8 and is designed to encourage students to work in teams to create their own books. Groeneweg’s class was one of two national winners of the 2011 competition.
