Northern Virginia ‘Walk To End Alzheimer’s’ This Weekend

Join Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine Hudgins, the 2011 honorary chair, for the Northern Virginia Walk to End Alzheimer’s, tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 25) at Reston Town Center, 11900 Market Street, Reston. Approximately 17,000 Fairfax County residents have Alzheimer’s and more than 45,000 family members and friends provide over 51 million hours of unpaid care annually (valued at more than $600 million). More than 60 percent of Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers rate the emotional stress of caregiving as high or very high; one-third report symptoms of depression.

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Participants will learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and support programs and services.

Alzheimer’s is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.
