Another attraction at the Family Recreation Area at Lee District Park will begin to take shape when groundbreaking ceremonies are held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 for Chessie’s Big Backyard playground.
The public is invited to attend the brief ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. at the site located at 6601 Telegraph Road in Franconia.
The Fairfax County Park Foundation, in conjunction with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Fairfax County Park Authority, is currently raising funds to provide for a playground unlike anything in Fairfax County.
This outdoor recreation area will engage children in physical activity and spark their imaginations with creative play. It is planned as a magical place that brings families together with old-fashioned, as well as thoroughly modern play elements that are accessible to everyone.
The playground will feature a Chesapeake Bay theme and will complement the existing tree house and Our Special Harbor sprayground, as well as future family picnic areas and a carousel.
