Animal Control Officers in the McLean police district have charged 50-year-old Pamela Louise Wykle of 1318 Summerfield Drive, Herndon, with six counts of animal cruelty, two counts of failure to dispose properly of dead animals and two counts of maintaining unsanitary conditions.
The charges were filed after Wykle surrendered to police on Sunday, April 10.
Officers say Wykle left her Herndon home containing 27 live cats around the holidays and not returned since then. She had been staying with family members in the McLean area.
The discovery of dozens of cat carcasses was made on Tuesday, April 5 after officers were called to the Herndon area to look for two large dogs that were seen running loose. The dogs ran into the back yard of the Summerfield Drive residence where the responding officer noticed a foul odor and saw a dead cat inside the home.
Herndon zoning officials have declared the home uninhabitable.
