Groundbreaking Set for Wiehle Metro Garage Project

Another sign of progress for the Dulles Metrorail extension

Officials from Fairfax county and private developer, Comstock Partners, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at the Reston East Park and Ride, located at 1860 Wiehle Avenue.

The underground garage, being built through a public-private partnership to serve the coming Reston-Wiehle Ave Metro station on the Silver Line, is expected to be completed by the time the station opens in mid-2013.

The facility will offer:

  • 2,300 public parking spaces
  • 45 kiss-and-ride parking spaces
  • 12 bus bays
  • Secure storage for 150 bicycles

The seven-level garage will be located north of the Metro station, next to the Dulles Toll Road and west of Wiehle Avenue.

Of the five stations that will be built during the first phase of the Dulles Metrorail Project, Reston-Wiehle is the only station that will have a garage.
