Easter Fun Goes Into Action At Local Parks

Get ready for Easter with a trip to one of Fairfax County’s many parks.

You can be part of an egg hunt, an eggstravaganza, or meet the Easter Bunny’s relatives — he has a lot of them, you know. You can register online for any of these programs, call 703-222-4664, or contact the parks directly.

Sully

On Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Sully Historic Site, add some Victorian charm to your Easter basket by decorating an egg with lace and flowers. The 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. classes for eight-year-olds and up costs $7.

There are also Easter egg hunts at Sully from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 for three to seven year-olds accompanied by adults. The cost is $5 per child. Sully Historic Site is located at 3650 Sully Way in Chantilly, Va. Call 703-437-1794 to register.

Cub Run

Children age five and older can learn how to decorate Easter eggs with natural materials. The Ukrainian art of Pysanky will be taught on Monday, April 11 at Cub Run RECenter. The cost is $10 per person plus a $2 craft fee. Separate classes will be held for those under 12 and those 12 years old and up. Call Cub Run in Chantilly, Va., at 703-817-9407 to register.

Hidden Oaks

Hidden Oaks Nature Center (HONC) at 7701 Royce St. in Annandale, Va., kicks off its plans with a Spring Eggstravaganze Puppet show for four to eight year-olds on Sunday, April 10. Live animals will be on hand for the $5 show. HONC also plans dinosaur egg hunts at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. for three to eight year-olds on Saturday, April 16.

Learn about the tradition of the Easter bunny and meet a rabbit in person at HONC on Friday, April 22. The program for 3-to-10 year-olds costs $5.

Mason District Park

Mason District Park at 6621 Columbia Pike in Annandale also hosts age-appropriate egg hunts for one to nine year-olds from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 23, complete with a moon bounce.

Nottoway

You can hop on over to Nottoway Park for the annual Easter Egg Hunt Celebration on April 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. for children ages one to nine years old.

Children are divided by age group and will hunt for eggs full of treats and win special prizes. Participants must bring their own basket. There will be a special appearance by the Easter Bunny as well.

Walk-in registration only starting at 9:30 a.m. Admission is $7 per child. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Nottoway Park. All proceeds will be donated to Nottoway Park improvements.

South Run

Registration is now open for the annual Easter Eggstravaganza at South Run RECenter. The event will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2011 for children ages eight and under. The festivities include an Easter egg hunt and face painting, pictures with the “Bunny” and arts and crafts.

The registration cost is $10 per child. Register at South Run RECenter or by calling 703-866-0566. South Run RECenter is located at 7550 Reservation Drive in Springfield.
