Students from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) took top honors in five of eight K-12 categories at the Virginia Scholastic and Collegiate Chess Championships held last weekend in Yorktown.
The team from Greenbriar West Elementary School won the K-3 team competition. Playing for the Greenbriar West K-3 team were Andrew Wang, Vivian Cao-Dao, Aasa Dommalapati, Ryan Xu, Revanth Vejju, Rishabh Misra, Atharva Patil, Siddharth Dhumne, and Kaavya Karthik.
Akhil Goel of Churchill Road Elementary School took top honors in the K-5 individual competition and the Greenbriar West Elementary School team won top honors in the K-5 team competition. Playing for Greenbriar West K-5 team were Alvin Cao, William Sun, Yuyang Wang, Rahil Shah, William Li, Diego Gutierrez, Pranav Karthik, Ashish Tondwalkar, Sadhana Suri, Mahati Malladi, Navya Gudimetla, and Adityasai Koneru.
Jeevan Karamsetty of Carson Middle School won the K-8 individual competition.
The team from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) won the K-12 team competition. Playing for TJHSST were Yang Dai, Craig Saperstein, Aravind Ponukumati, Ashley Xue, Katherine Wu, Quentin Moore, Kun Liu, Adam Hood, Arman Khojandi, Kartik Gupta, Roshan Sajjad, Parth Chopra, Rahul Ramraj, Daniel Fontenot, Kiffa Conroy, Daniel Li, Hari Devanathan, Jayanth Devanathan, Stephanie Marzen, Vivek Gorijala, Jeremy Loffredo, and Ronit Malka.
